Hi, I’m Randy Kirk, founder of SGI Naturals.
I didn’t set out to start a bug repellent company.
I was simply trying to solve a problem for myself.
Several years ago, while living on St. George Island, Florida, I found myself constantly battling no-see-ums, sand gnats, mosquitoes, yellow flies, and other biting insects. Walking the dog, working outdoors, or simply sitting on the porch often meant reaching for chemical bug sprays that I didn’t particularly enjoy using.
When we began renovating our home on the island, the problem became impossible to ignore. Some days the bugs were so persistent that I started experimenting with natural alternatives in my own kitchen, looking for something simple, effective, and pleasant to use.
What followed was nearly two years of research, testing, and refinement.
After countless batches and real-world testing in one of Florida’s toughest bug environments, I developed the formula that eventually became our Bug Repellent Balm. Made with grass-fed, grass-finished beef tallow, beeswax, and lavender oil, it quickly became something I used every day. Friends, neighbors, and visitors started asking for tins of their own, and SGI Naturals was born.
Today, every tin is still made with the same philosophy that inspired the original recipe: simple ingredients, thoughtful craftsmanship, and products I would happily use on myself and share with family and friends.
